TIMELINE
After a conversation in fall 2024, as part of Newburgh’s annual Archtober event, we start research and planning for a community tool library in Newburgh. In 2025, we begin outreach, create an architectural design for building the facility from scratch, organize a small group of volunteers, arrange for the use of a vacant lot, plant street trees up and down the block, install rainwater collection, begin forming partnerships with local organizations, and obtain grant funding. In 2026, we clean the site and remediate the soil with bio materials and cover crops, build site infrastructure and fences, invent and install a solar power system, start conducting educational workshops, develop the design to utilize bio materials and involve community members, harvest invasive reeds for our walls, operate a site-specific youth employment program, and begin building the tool library itself. Over the winter, we’ll finish construction, begin stocking tools for our lending program, and begin to plan workshops, activities and operations.
